Crash on southbound I-45 claims life of pedestrian Friday

PALMER – An unidentified man was killed Friday morning, July 26 at 6:35 a.m. on southbound I-45. The man was attempting to cross the highway on foot and was struck by a motor vehicle

When emergency responders arrived they found the man in critical condition, but despite their efforts to provide medical assistance the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Palmer Police Department indicated in a press release they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident “including the conditions that led to the pedestrian crossing the highway.”

The driver involved is also cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation is conducted.

The identity of the deceased man has not been released pending notification of the family.

According to statistics a total of 7,522 pedestrian deaths occurred in 2022. Pedestrian fatalities account for 18% of all crash fatalities. Although pedestrian deaths in 2022 were approximately the same as in 1975, they have increased 83% since reaching their lowest point in 2009.
