FERRIS PUBLIC LIBRARY: More than Books (February 2, 2023)

Are you still feeling charitable after the holidays or do you practice the spirit of giving all year long?

If so, the Ferris Public Library can assist you in your generosity.

We are a drop-off location for the Blue Star Mothers of America.

One of the many projects they participate in is care packages for our troops.

Items suggested for these care packages are deodorant, eye drops, socks, disposable razors and travel shaving cream, small air fresheners, small LED lights, just to name a few.

Sealed packages of beef jerky, sunflower seeds, peanut brittle, jellybeans, and any food/candy that is non-melting and individually wrapped.

Crossword and Sudoku puzzles are appreciated along with writing mate-rials, stamps, and zip-lock bags.

Personal letters, cards, and notes of encouragement are welcomed as well.

You may bring items to the library, 301 E. 10th St., and Cheree Barrett will pick them up to be shipped. Cheree is the President of Bluebonnet Chapter TX13 of Blue Star Mothers. February 1st is designated as National Blue Star Mother’s Day, which was founded in 1942. They always value the United States with pride and a patriotic spirit.

Library staff may be reached at ferrislibrary@ferristexas.gov or (972) 544-2110, Option 9.

NEW BOOKS: “Night Shift” by Robin Cook, “Dreamland” by Nicholas Sparks, “Next In Line: William Warwick #5” by Jeffrey Archer, “Dark Fall: Shepherds Series #3” by Brian Andrews, “Robert B. Parker’s Fallout” by Mike Lupica, “Live Wire” (Bio) by Kelly Ripa, “Sinkable: Obsession, the Deep Sea, and the Shipwreck of the Titanic” (Dewey 910) by Daniel Stone, and “Life On the Mississippi: An Epic American Adventure” (Dewey 977) by Rinker Buck.

WORD OF THE WEEK: “Comeuppance” (kum-UP-unss) means punishment that someone de-serves to receive. In 1974 Elvis Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, convinced Elvis to make an album of talking instead of singing called “Having Fun with Elvis on Stage” Parker’s idea was to keep the profits for himself. Luckily, he got some form of comeuppance when the album tanked.
