FERRIS PUBLIC LIBRARY: More than books (November 21, 2019)

The Ferris Public Library’s Annual Food for Fines is back! Up until Dec. 20, 2019, you may clear your account with non-perishable food donations. Here’s how it works; every dollar you have for past due fines you can gift one can or package of food. This is for past due fines only; items must be returned to the library. Food will be given to a local food bank, which will be a win-win for everyone. Your account gets cleared, the library’s records will get cleaned up, and people in our community will benefit. If you’re not sure if you have any past due fines, please feel free to call us at (972) 544-3696. Of course, we accept donations from those that are feeling generous during this giving time of year!

The library has a cute Thanksgiving mask that your child can color, and we’ll take their picture to display on our digital picture frame. There is a limited supply, so visit us soon. We will be closed Nov. 28 – 30 and will return to our regular hours on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 9 a.m.

On our collaboration with the Ferris ISD for students to have free access to the library’s e-book collection, we have had over 90 students register with 196 checkouts. These are significant numbers since the program has only been in place for three weeks. The Ferris ISD staff, especially Mrs. Strickland at the Intermediate school, has been working diligently with Stacey Lankford, and it is very much appreciated.

After-School Game Time for ages 7 through 17, is held every Tuesday, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Kids can play Wii and PS4 on the large screens, and for those that like the board games they can play them as well.

Story Time for pre-school children is on each Wednesday, at 11 a.m. Children will be treated to a story, fun activities, and have a snack. Before leaving, your child may choose a prize from the Treasure Chest.
