JURY SCAMS HIT ELLIS COUNTY
ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Sheriff’s office and Sheriff Brad Norman are reminding everyone about a scam that took place last week and is possibly ongoing.
There have been numerous calls in which citizens were contacted and told they did not show up for “Jury Duty” and a warrant for their arrest was issued.
The reminder by the Sheriff’s Department noted “The scammer would then continue and say they could keep from being arrested if they paid a fine etc.”
The call appears to be from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office on the caller ID.
In several cases last week, the scammer even reported to be Sheriff Norman on the phone.
“Please know this is not how we operate, and we will never call you and solicit money over the phone,” Norman said in a Facebook post on the Ellis County Sheriff’s Facebook page.
“If you have any questions call and ask for the facts before sending money in any situation.”
