The dynamics of discipleship (part 19)

Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.”LUKE 10:30-32

It is inevitable that you will have a chance to be a good Samaritan sometime or maybe many times in your life. Today however because of the increase of lawlessness, most people’s love will grow cold and they will choose not to help someone in need because of fear.

Loving your neighbor is the second greatest commandment in the Bible and God will test your heart to see if you will obey His word or not.

My first test came early on in my walk when I saw a man in the weeds, dirty, sunburned and homeless. As I proceeded to pass him by, the Holy Spirit convicted me, reminding me about the Bible study I had just taught on loving God and my neighbor.

I immediately turned around and picked the man up and was going to take him to my home and meet his need.

On the way I questioned him about his life and why he ended up homeless but as he answered I was thinking about what I could do for him to get him back into life.

As we turned on the road that led to our farm he abruptly said to me, “Let me out!” Startled, I said what's wrong and he said he was scared because he had been on the streets so long. I told him to go to a men’s mission down the street and said I would be back in a few minutes.

I rushed home grabbed some clothes and went to the mission and asked where the big guy was and they said they hadn’t seen anyone. And then it hit me – he was an angel sent to test my heart.

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. – HEBREWS 13:2
