The dynamics of discipleship (part 29)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.” – LUKE 4:18

As disciples of Christ, we too are anointed to preach the good news to the poor of this world. Problem being, most want to preach to the rich who for the most part don’t need God. Very seldom does someone who has it all together financially or is in good health cry out to God to be saved.

The poor on the other hand are desperate for divine intervention in need of all things, unlike America who is rich and increased in goods. I grew up in a family that was very well off and I knew at a young age that I would someday inherit my father’s business of which I did when he died at the young age of 63. I was 25 years old, young and dumb and obsessed with sex, drugs and rock and roll. I was a millionaire with a successful equipment business and 7 acres of prime industrial lease property when I got hooked on cocaine and squandered all that my father had left me.

Broke, busted and disgusted, I ended up losing all and cutting scrap metal just to make a living until one night a man came to my house and preached the gospel to me, a poor man who needed Jesus and the rest is history. I gave my life and heart to the Lord and became a new creation in Christ 40 years ago.

“Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.” LUKE 8:14
