The miracles of Jesus (part 3)
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” – John 2:1-3
Although it was not time for Jesus to reveal Himself when His mother told Him that the wedding party had run out of wine, but for obedience’s sake He proceeded to tell the servants to fill the six stone water pots with water.
Wine was not stored in these six stone water pots because they were used for ceremonial washing and cleansing of the body. Jesus was making a prophetic statement because the number six represents the imperfection of man who was created on the sixth day, and He was about to turn the water into wine that represented His blood.
This being His first public miracle was proclaiming that on the third day He would rise to cleanse mankind with His own blood shed for all who would receive Him. When the master of the feast tasted the wine, he remarked that the good wine was served last.
This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. – John 2:11
