2 unseated after runoff
ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County voter turnout for the May 6 was an embarrassing 14.50%.
With 128,865 registered voters in Ellis County, only 18,689 voters thought it was necessary to get out and support our country’s freedom to take part in the election process.
The runoff election Saturday was even more disappointing, with a voter turnout under 6%, or 2,895 ballots cast for last Saturday’s election.
The Midlothian City Council Runoff Place 1 election saw a changing of the guard, when incumbent councilmember Wayne Sibley received 341 votes or 33.20% to opponent Allen Moorman’s 686 or 66.80%.
The Red Oak ISD Trustee Runoff Place 5 race also saw an upset, with incumbent Penelope Story taken down by Sean Michael Kelly with 80.72% of the vote or 1,476 votes to Story’s 364 votes or 19.78% of the vote.
The election in May that called for the runoff of Story and Kelly also included two additional candidates. The runoff was necessary because no candidate received over 50% in the earlier election for the Place 5 seat.
