Spend your 4th of July this year at one of the area’s very excellent Independence Day celebrations.
WAXAHACHIE
Waxahachie’s 25th Annual Crape Myrtle Festival & Parade is ready to celebrate Independence Day as the Crape Myrtle capital.
The celebration begins Monday, July 3, at 6 p.m. at the Waxahachie Sports Complex located at 151 Broadhead Rd.
Madness Entertainment will entertain the crowd before the concert.
This year, guests will enjoy a concert by Seger System at 7:30 p.m.
Following the concert will be the H-E-B and City of Waxahachie fireworks display at 9:15 p.m.
Spectators are encouraged to tune their radio to KBEC 1390/99.1 during the fireworks show for a special simulcast of patriotic music choreographed to the fireworks. Lawn chairs, blankets and coolers are allowed at the Waxahachie Sports Complex; however, personal fireworks are prohibited.
On Tuesday, July 4, the celebration will continue at 10 a.m. with the CNB of Texas hometown parade from Getzendaner Park down Main Street to Downtown Waxahachie.
All Veterans and active service personnel, including veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan War on Terror, are honored guests in the parade.
Before the parade, veterans plus one guest are invited to the Dan McClinton Veterans’ Memorial Breakfast, sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Waxahachie beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Crape Myrtle Festival & Parade are free to the public.

RED OAK

A spectacular 15-minute fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. with fireworks being shot off behind the Oaks Church. Onsite parking at Oaks Church is available from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Vehicles will not be allowed to enter the Oaks Church Parking Lots before 6:30 pm or after 9:00 pm.
MIDLOTHIAN
The Midlothian Independence Day Parade will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 10 a.m., and will begin at Midlothian Community Park, 3601 S. 14th Street and travel north towards Mt. Zion Road. The Parade Award Categories this year include:
• Let Freedom Ring - Best Use of Theme
• Firecracker - Best Decorated
• Show Stoppers - Equestrian or Animal entry
• Crowning Glory - Best Overall
The fireworks show will be held on Monday, July 1 at 9:15 p.m. The show will be staged in the field near the MISD Multi-purpose stadium and can be viewed from the stadium parking lot and surrounding vicinity.
Here’s what you should know:
For your safety, traffic and parking near the staging area on and around 14th St. from George Hopper Rd. to US Hwy. 287 will be affected as follows:
• Parking lots at the MISD Multi-Purpose Stadium (1800 S. 14th St.) will be open for viewing at 6 p.m.
• The parking lot at the new Physician Office Building at 979 Don Floyd Dr. also will be open to the public.
• Parking lots at the hospital and the Sports Complex (1000 S. 14th Street) will be closed to the public.
• Portions of Silken Crossing will be closed south from George Hopper Rd. from 6 p.m. till after the Fireworks Show.
• No parking will be allowed in the grassy area between the Sports Complex and the Stadium as this is the fireworks staging area.
• Traffic along 14th St. will be routed to expedite the flow of vehicles coming to and going from the stadium. Please follow the instructions of law enforcement officers and do not cross taped or roped-off areas or move barricades.
