Alma PD chase ends in suspect’s arrest
ALMA – A police chase, which began in Alma last Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 a.m. when Alma PD received a call about a stolen truck, ended successfully with four agencies getting involved to lead to the suspect’s apprehension.
Alma police were assisted by the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Ennis Police Department to arrest the suspect, who originally stole the vehicle from a Best Buy parking lot in Flower Mound.
The suspect abandoned the truck on Fowler Street in Alma and ran on foot toward Old Alma Road, according to an Alma Police Department media release.
Officers gave pursuit and jumped over two fences before losing the suspect in the dense wooded area near the cemetery on Alma Drive.
Other agencies then got involved in the pursuit, including Air One Helicopter. A perimeter was established, and the assisting agencies flushed the suspect toward SH 1182, where Alma officers made the arrest near Rice.
The media release also reported the owner of the vehicle had followed the GPS installed in his truck until he located the vehicle near the highway in Alma. He then called police.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center in Waxahachie and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state jail felony, and evading arrest or detention (a Class A misdemeanor).
