Double aggravated robbery suspect arrested after foot chase by Red Oak police

RED OAK – A Dallas man is facing multiple aggravated robbery charges after allegedly robbing a pharmacy and gas station on the same day in Red Oak.

On Monday, April 16 a little after 7 a.m., Red Oak police were dispatched to the CVS located at 105 Harris Avenue to a robbery in progress.

Officers arrived at the scene minutes later, but the suspect had fled.

Witnesses told police a black male entered the pharmacy, acted as if he had a weapon, and forced the clerk to open the register.

After grabbing the cash, the suspect took off in a white Honda CRV with distinctive damage and stickers on the vehicle.

A review of several Flock cameras (automated license plate readers) provided Red Oak PD with a matching vehicle description for the damage, stickers, and license plate. That information assisted detectives in locating the residence of the registered owner in Dallas County.

Later that night at 11:13 p.m., Red Oak police were again dispatched to another robbery in progress, this time at the Exxon Tiger Mart at 100 Harris Avenue.

The earlier pattern repeated itself – a black male threatening a weapon, forcing the clerk to empty the register, then fleeing in a white Honda CRV.

Minutes later at 11:23, a Red Oak police officer spotted the Honda at the Chevron Taco Casa, located at 3200 Parkerville Road in Lancaster, with a person matching the description of the suspect in the car.

The officer called Lancaster PD for backup, but before Lancaster officers arrived, the person got out of the car, forcing the Red Oak policeman to confront him.

As the officer was preparing to arrest the suspect based on probable cause, the man became verbally non-compliant, resisted arrest, and took off on foot. That chase ended seconds later when the suspect was subdued with a TASER.

After being taken into custody, the man was identified as 56-year-old Brian Keith McKinzie of Dallas.

He was booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center on two counts of aggravated robbery, one count of robbery, and one count of evading arrest/detention.

Police say McKinzie is also facing additional charges after being identified as the suspect in robberies that occurred in Cedar Hill and Dallas.
