ECU Powerlifting Team dominates at winter games

AUSTIN – After a successful outing at the North Texas Region Powerlifting meet held at Dissent Athletics in Ft. Worth on Feb. 4, the Ellis County United Powerlifting Team traveled to Austin to compete in the Texas Special Olympics Winter Games on Feb. 18.

The showcase event for Texas Special Olympics featured approximately 130 lifters from throughout Texas.

Six powerlifters from the Ellis County team made the trip and earned 15 gold, 7 silver and two bronze.

Three ladies – Paige Greenburg, Katie Tharp and Nicole Alsup – swept their divisions, winning 4 gold medals each.

Ellis County United is a county-wide delegation for year-round support of athletic opportunities in several sports for individuals with disabilities.
