Effort to oust Wilmer City Admin Fails

WILMER – Senator Royce West, State Representative Carl Sherman, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and other Dallas movers and shakers attended the Wilmer City Council meeting last week when an agenda item to discuss city financials “delivered to the City Council on Dec. 7, 2023” was added to the council’s list of executive session items to discuss the dismissal of Wilmer City Administrator Rona Stringfellow.

The item was placed on the agenda by Wilmer City Council Mayor Pro Tem Laura Jacobs and councilmember Phyllis Slough.

Almost a dozen individuals spoke on Stringfellow’s behalf.

Some who spoke reminded council the positive movement in the city could not have been done without Stringfellow’s guidance.

One citizen said this was the third time an item to remove the city administrator was on the council agenda unnecessarily, as each time has been unsuccessful.

Another speaker reminded council Stringfellow’s “moral compass is due north.”

Price spoke about her being “consistent in Wilmer” citing her many accomplishments during her tenure with the city.

The last public speaker was former Wilmer Mayor Emmanuel Wealthy, who told council, “Losing Rona will take the city back 50 years.”

When council reconvened after the executive session, no action was taken on the agenda item.
