Ferris enters Mandatory Stage II Water Restrictions
FERRIS – The City of Ferris announced today it has gone into a Mandatory Stage II Water Restriction Plan.
The Texas Water Code and the regulation of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality require that cities adopt a Drought Contingency Plan to take natural limitations and drought conditions into account when circumstances are present.
The city issued the Mandatory Stage II Water Restrictions, as defined by its Drought Contingency Plan on Monday, Aug. 7.
Nonessential water use is overall defined as the use of water that is “neither essential nor required for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare.”
This also includes: the irrigation of landscapes areas, including parks, athletic fields, golf courses, except as otherwise provided under this plan; the use of water to wash any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane, or other vehicle; the use of water to wash down sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts, or other hard-surface areas; the use of water to wash down building or structures for the purpose other than immediate fire protection; flushing gutters or permitting water to run or accumulate in any gutter or street; the use of water to fill, refill, or add to any indoor or outdoor swimming pools or jacuzzi; the use of water in a fountain or pond for aesthetic or scenic purposes except where necessary to support aquatic life; and failure to repair a controllable leak(s) within a reasonable period after having been given notice directing the repair of such leak(s).
These restrictions will be rescinded when water demand falls to a level that both drought conditions and natural limitations support.
Usage will be monitored daily and notice of the rescinded restrictions will be sent out promptly, when appropriate.
