Ferris getting 80,000 sq-ft glass manufacturing facility on I-45

Company will provide jobs and improved tax base

FERRIS – In late May, the City of Ferris announced a $35 million residential development set to begin construction next spring on 11 acres between FM 664 and FM 983.

The city’s latest win is an 80,000 sq-ft commercial development glass manufacturing facility, to be located in the 700 block of Interstate 45 South on five acres.

Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams confirmed the development last week and said it will bring at least 50 new jobs to the city, as well as adding millions in property value, and spur further economic development in the city and region.

Construction of Contemporary Glass Tempering, LLC’s multi-million dollar facility is expected to begin in the next several months.

Owner Donald Wooten said this will be the largest facility of the three he currently owns; currently a facility in Houston and another in New Braunfels.

“The City of Ferris and Contemporary Glass Tempering, LLC have been working together for some time to reach this point, and we are excited to have Don and his company come to Ferris,” Williams said.

“The addition of Contemporary Glass Tempering, LLC  is in line with the strategic plan of the City of Ferris and our goal to cultivate an environment conducive to strong and sustainable economic development.”

Contemporary Glass Tempering, LLC has been in business 33 years, and Wooten said the facility in Ferris will be running 24 hours a day when complete.

He said the company, as an example manufactures about 1,500 shower doors a day and works in both the commercial and residential arena.

The company is also 95% recyclable, working mainly with clients throughout the golden triangle; Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston.

“The addition of Contemporary Glass Tempering and their facility improves our tax base, adds well-paying jobs to our local economy, and continues to show how Ferris is Distinct by Design,” Williams said as Wooten expressed praise in conclusion for Williams’ help in facilitating the project’s new location overall.
