Ferris opposes formation of Municipal Utility Districts
FERRIS – During Monday’s Ferris City Council meeting, a resolution was passed opposing the formation by any developer of municipal utility districts, within the city limits, extraterritorial jurisdiction, and points beyond.
The resolution expressed the support and desire for well planned, coordinated, and sustainable development that opposes the formation, by a developer, of municipal utility districts, within the city limits, extraterritorial jurisdiction, and points beyond.
“Ferris is experiencing rapid growth due in part to its comprehensive plans and ordinances and desires for growth and development occur in an orderly and methodical manner, and, in accordance with the city’s comprehensive plans and ordinances.
“The city will consider the utilization of one or economic development programs to enhance smart growth development in accordance with the city’s comprehensive plans and ordinances and should have the appropriate authority to regulate growth in their respective cities.”
The resolution stated, “municipal utility districts have been improperly used by certain developers to avoid compliance with county and city infrastructure plans; and the city hereby expresses concerns about the use of municipal utility districts, and other special legislative and statutory districts in a manner that leads to incompatible developments near the city.
“The city encourages all development near the Ferris evolve in manner adhering to the principles of the city’s comprehensive plans and ordinances and is compatible with existing development and densities.”
In other action, Kathy Harrington was recognized for her 30 years as Ferris Public Librarian. She will retire on March 31.
