Wilmer summer reading program wraps up
WILMER – The City of Wilmer E.M. Gilliam Memorial Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will officially end this week. The last formal program will the End of Summer Reading Party on Thursday, July 28.
Beginning in early June, youth and adults alike spent the summer at the library enjoying a vigorous activity schedule every Thursday for youth and Tuesdays for adults.
Reading challenges were offered for children ages 4 to 11 and Tweens/Teens ages 12 to 18.
Sponsored by Sonic and Whataburger, the summer reading club prizes offered were diverse with categories ranging from Back to School, to I Love to Read to an art theme category.
The summer reading program kicked off on June 9 for youth with Science Experiments with Ms. Jennifer and Natalia, and from there students were able to delve into new topics each week with art, movies and even a scavenger hunt.
Adults were also in on the action with a summer program that included Bingo, movies, and last week’s finale, which was a day for games and “gab time.”
As the summer series ends, a ceremony encapsulating all the memories will be held the final week of Wilmer’s successful reading program… until next year!
