The believer’s mission statement (part 6)
“Recovery of sight to the blind.” – Luke 4:18
Jesus prayed for many who were blind, some even blind from birth and gave them their sight back. A major miracle indeed, but He also prayed for people to recover their spiritual sight, the ability to see that which is spiritual, the revelation of God’s word given by the Holy Spirit.
Many of the messages Jesus preached and taught were parables, simple stories told to illustrate a moral truth, but unless one had eyes to see, he would not understand what He was saying to them. Many never discern what the Holy Spirit is speaking, even Bible scholars who know the word backwards and forwards, always learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
I have a friend, mentor and pastor who is going blind. He cant drive anymore, or read, or do many of the things he once loved, but I have never heard him grumble or complain, he always has a positive outlook and faith that once God reveals that which is spiritual to him, he will regain his sight. He is truly a testimony to the grace of God.
“To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.” – Luke 8:10
