OBITUARY: Nona Epps

Nona (Mann) Epps passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2020 at the age of 93.

She was born in June of 1926 in Honey Grove, Texas to the late William Philip and Edna Mable (Hulsey) Mann. She was the youngest of seven siblings. After meeting the love of her life, Alton Epps, they married in Dallas on June 30, 1955 and moved to Ferris, where she served six years as city secretary. She was recognized as a Who’s Who of Texas Women, and is remembered for her lovely singing voice and sang on a Sunday morning radio program as a young adult.

Nona loved the Church of Christ, and if the church doors were open, she was many times the first to arrive and the last to leave. For many years she was an active resident and volunteer at the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, where she could be found reading to others, helping and caring for many other residents. Her generosity of love and compassion will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Alton Epps, grandson Matthew Austin Epps and siblings: Elva Luttrell, Mary Lou Roberts, John Mann, Henry Mann, Ruth Cave and Jo Evans.

She is survived by children: Kay and husband Michael Headley of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Philip and wife Rosemary Epps of North Richland Hills; grandchildren: Thomas Philip Epps II and wife Melissa, John David Epps, Andrew Michael Headley, Lloyd Charles and wife Jenny Lively, Amanda Headley-Davenport and husband Greg, Mario Madrigal and Natacha and husband Derek Scott; great-grandchildren: Charlotte Epps, Aspen Epps, Jenny Rene and husband Monty Heatly, Jeremy Madrigal, Nicolas Madrigal and Irelan Rose MacKean; great-great grandchild: Olivia Heatley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Green Funeral Home in Ferris.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the Christian Care Center Church of Christ: 1000 Wiggins Pkwy., Mesquite, with burial to follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Ladonia, Texas. Mr. Jim Corner and Mr. Ray Hunter officiating.
