FRONT-PORCH GOSPEL: The Holy Spirit’s not going to argue!

Good week to all. Welcome to the “front porch.”

Have you ever noticed that the Lord never goes about proving His existence?

He just declares it.

Profoundly, emphatically.

“In the beginning God created ...”

And should a man choose to question the great truth, the Spirit offers the ultimate rebuttal – “The fool hath said in his heart,” He says, “there is no God.”

In other words: “I’m not going to argue with you about it.”

A couple of years ago, a news show reminded me how foolish men can be.

I happened upon a panel discussion on one of the national news stations where the host asked several guests to share a great scene in history they would go back and witness if possible.

One by one the panelists recounted some great American moments they would revisit, such as Kennedy’s “Ask not what your country can do for you …” speech – or to Martin Luther King’s grand recitation at the historic Lincoln Memorial.

But one panelist surprised the rest of the group when his turn came to speak.

He said, “I think I’d go back to the resurrection.”

The panel could not have laughed any louder.

At that moment, I thought: What a sad thing for a man or woman to live such a faithless life!

But it gets worse.

The host of the show steps up and ridicules even further with a, “Well, I think I’d go back to the big bang” rebuttal.

The group liked that witty response and chattered about it for a minute, until the other gentleman spoke up again, with a wry smile, saying,

“Well, I guess I just think different.”

Read a little ways into God’s Word, friends – Read Nehemiah 9:6 or Psalm 33:6-9.

And here’s something you’ll find, too:

The Holy Spirit thinks different, too.

And He’s not going to argue about it.
