Head-on crash claims teen’s life
FERRIS – A 17-year-old died early Saturday morning in a wrong-way crash in Ellis County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred about 4:40 a.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 45 near Risinger Road, south of Ferris.
According to the preliminary investigation, a silver 2003 Honda Civic was traveling south in the middle lane of the southbound side of I-45 when it was struck head-on by a black 2015 Nissan Altima traveling north in the same lane of the interstate.
The Nissan came to a stop in the left lane where it was then struck by a white Dodge Ram pickup that was southbound on I-45.
The driver of the Honda, identified as 17-year-old Joshua Sherrell of Waxahachie, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Jewelissa Acosta of Dallas, was transported by CareFlite to Methodist Charlton Medical Center with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
The driver of the Dodge pickup, identified as 58-year-old Jonathan Raden, was uninjured.
At the request of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, the southbound side of I-45 was closed until 12:15 p.m. Saturday due to the accident investigation.
As of press time, it has not been confirmed if Acosta was driving under the influence.
