OBITUARY: Gordon Raymond Edwards

Dec. 16, 1942 – Jan. 20, 2021

Gordon Edwards was born on Dec. 16, 1942 in San Diego, Calif. to James and Ruth Edwards.

The family moved to Texas in 1950. Gordon married Kimberly Root on June 5, 1999 and was married until his death on Jan. 20, 2021.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Kimberly Edwards; daughter, Amber Simecek and spouse Jeffrey Simecek; stepdaughters: Larisa Lichte and spouse Tim Lichte, Kendra Root and Rebekah Lowery and spouse Damone Lowery; grandchildren Trinity, Faith, Isabella, Evie, Elijah, Josiah, Allison, Madison, Nehemiah, Shiloh, Malachi and Azel. Three Brothers: Loren Edwards, Wilson Edwards and Scott Edwards and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C., and Ruth Edwards.

Gordon graduated from the Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas. He served four years in the United States Air Force until 1964.

He served most of his active duty in Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. He was a youth pastor at Marsh Baptist Lane Baptist in the late 60’s.

Gordon went on to get his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Le. Tourneau University in 1994, a Bachelor from Arlington Baptist College in 1995 and a Master of Business Administration from Le Tourneau University in 1996 and numerous other certificates including two certification certificates from the Fowler School of Business and Executive Coaching for Certified Professional Coach 2017 and Master Business Coach in 2018.

He worked for the Small Business Development Administration with the Dallas County Community College until he retired in 2019.

He loved helping people start up their businesses and helping them grow and develop their dreams.

He would spend countless hours with his clients, never rushing and always looking for the opportunity to share his love of Jesus with them.

Gordon was awarded the 2003 State Star Award by the SBDC.

Gordon was a man whose heart belonged to the Lord. Throughout his life, he was covered in prayer, which sustained him through all the ups and downs in his life.

As he developed and matured in his walk with our Lord, he passionately loved to share amazing grace and redemption that Jesus willingly became God in man form; walked this earth and shed his innocent blood on the cross to cover the sins of the earth.

Gordon shared this message; without hesitation with clients, people he encountered and family.

He was someone we could call and get Godly advice from.

Gordon will be dearly missed by his family and friends, but we draw strength and joy from knowing he is face to face with our savior Jesus, all his burdens are gone, his flesh and his bones have been made whole again, he has run his race and made it to heaven, the thing he longed for most.

He will be standing in heaven cheering us on, waiting with open arms to welcome all of us home when we also make it to the “Land of Glory.”
