OBITUARY: Ralph Paul Scaccia

Ralph Paul Scaccia, age 89 of Ferris, Texas passed away Jan. 23, 2022. He was born May 22, 1932 in the Bronx, New York to Alfredo and Assunta (Lobano) Scaccia, Italian immigrants who passed through Ellis Island from Italy. He was the youngest of four children; the second born in the USA. He later moved to Queens, New York and enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a sharpshooter in Korea from where he earned an Army of Occupation medal, a Korean service medal with one bronze service star, the United Nation service medal, and the National Defense service medal.

Ralph later made his way to Detroit, Michigan where he met and married the love of his life Mary Margaret Pratt. They were married June 19, 1954 in New York. They moved to Long Island and began their family in Babylon, New York. He worked for American Airlines for over 34 years, retiring as a fleet service manager. Over the years he worked side jobs to better support his family working for Firestone and Kmart.

He always enjoyed reminiscing about his childhood, growing up in the Bronx not far from Yankees Stadium, living near and getting to know several famous baseball and boxing stars and horse jockeys, and riding his skateboard. He was an avid Yankees fan and also played baseball for the American Airlines team. He frequently took his children to sporting events and loved to travel and see his family, never meeting a stranger along the way. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Margaret Scaccia; son Michael Ralph Scaccia; parents and his three siblings.

He is survived by his daughters: Sherry Scaccia Swindell and husband Floyd of Arlington, Diane Scaccia of Rowlett, and Debbie Huneycutt of Ferris; as well as 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and other extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022 at Green Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022 at Green Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
