Underage driver killed, 3 injured in rollover accident northeast of Ferris
FERRIS – On Tuesday, May 17 at approximately 4:56 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were called to a one-vehicle fatality crash on Wolf Springs Rd., approximately one mile northeast of S. Meadow Drive in Ellis County.
The preliminary investigation shows a 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was traveling at an unsafe speed west on Wolf Springs Rd., which is a gravel road.
The driver, a 14-year-old male juvenile, failed to negotiate a left hand curve, then over-corrected several times before going off the roadway in a sideways skid to the right.
The Tacoma then went through a fence and rolled over.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the truck. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Judge Dan Cox of Precinct #3.
The three passengers, all male juveniles ages 12, 13, and 14-years-old, were transported to Children’s Medical Center Dallas with non-incapacitating injuries.
The investigation is ongoing by the TxDPS, and no other information is available at this time.
