Red Oak defense steps up, stops Arlington Seguin 35-25
ARLINGTON – The Red Oak Hawks took their 1-0 record on the road last Friday night, traveling to Arlington where they battled the Arlington Seguin Cougars in a non-district match-up.
The Hawks ground game eventually took its toll on the Cougars, but they did not go away quietly.
The teams traded scores in the first half, but a missed PAT by Seguin gave the Hawks a 16-15 halftime lead.
The defense stole the show in the 2nd half, coming out of the locker room with back-to-back pick 6’s against the Seguin QB, giving the Hawks a 29-15 lead in less than 2 minutes.
Seguin came right back with a 3-play scoring drive, but failed on the 2-point conversion.
The Hawks would score again late in the 4th on a short field thanks to 2 Seguin kick-offs which went out-of-bounds.
The Cougars put together another drive, scoring late to close within 10. However on Seguin’s final drive, the Hawks defense stepped up and shut down the Cougars on 3rd and goal from the 8-yard line, and then 4th and goal from the 3-yard line to seal the 35-25 win.
The Hawks start district play on Friday, Sept. 9 at Billy Goodloe Stadium in Red Oak as they host Lake Belton HS. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
