The dynamics of discipleship (part 32)
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, to proclaim liberty to the captives.” – LUKE 4:18
There are many forms of captivity in the Bible, enslavement, bondage and imprisonment to various kinds of masters.
Whatever holds you in captivity is your master, whether sin or the things of the world, but Jesus came to set the captives free.
We, as stewards of the mysteries of God have been given authority and power to pull down strongholds and to preach the gospel that sets the captives free from whatever holds them.
My father always said, “Possession is nine-tenths of the law,” meaning whatever or whomever possesses you, legally has a right to you.
Sin is a cruel taskmaster with no mercy or grace – it holds its victims tightly with none to rescue except the Lord Jesus. Only by acknowledging and confessing ones sins, and repenting can one be truly free from the bondage of the devil.
“In humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.” – II TIMOTHY 2:25,26
