The dynamics of discipleship (part 46)

“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” – MARK 14:38

There are many doors that allow the devil entrance into ones life but there are five which brought David down.

The first was idleness, a state of being idle or complacent, the act of letting your guard down.

You have heard the old saying, “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.”

First of all, we have the mind of Christ, a mind set on things above and not on the earth. Our minds are to be filled with God’s word and our thoughts are to be inventoried and cleansed if need be.

In the garden the devil took advantage of Adam and Eve by getting them to doubt what God had commanded them, not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The apostle Paul told the Galatian church to walk in the Spirit and they would not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

In other words, you can’t fill your mind with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life and expect to be able to resist temptation because you are adding fuel to the fire.

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” – I CORINTHIANS 16:13
