WILMER ETJ CONTROVERSY UPDATE

WILMER – Several residents in the ETJ (Extraterritorial Jurisdiction) of Wilmer believe the city is illegally annexing.

These residents claim they have not been receiving city services.

The city disagrees.

In fact, the city has been providing water, library privileges and additional city services to several homes in their ETJ.

Some were questioning the fact there was no record with the Dallas County Appraisal District.

However, listings occur once a year normally at the beginning of the new calendar year.

The time of a record being added to the Dallas County Appraisal District is not mandated by the City of Wilmer, but by the Dallas County Appraisal District.

When the record is added to the appraisal district, it is at that time the Election Board will add residents to the rolls, allowing them to be eligible to vote in upcoming Wilmer city elections.

This will likely not happen until early 2024, at which time residents will be notified by the Appraisal District.

Overall, the city has what was called by one official “donut holes” of areas that are not officially city at this time.

That includes about 140 people who are affected and will be added to the appraisal district in 2024.
