FERRIS PUBLIC LIBRARY: More than Books (May 4, 2023)

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, voting will take place at the Ferris Public Library, 301 E. 10th Street, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. This is a Joint General and Special Election. All eligible registered voters in Ellis County, Texas, may vote at any voting center in Ellis County.

Don’t know if you’re registered to vote? Go to sos.texas.gov then type “am I registered to vote” in the search bar, from there it’s as easy as inputting your name, county, and date of birth.

Story Time is hosted each Thursday at 11 a.m. for pre-school children and their caregivers. Children are treated to stories, snacks, and activities. At the end of Story Time, each child may pick a toy from the Treasure Chest to take home with them.

NEW BOOKS: “Small Mercies” by Dennis Lehane, “The Curator” by Owen King, “Old Babes in the Wood” by Margaret Atwood, “The Sister Effect” by Susan Mallery, “The House of Eve” by Sadeqa Johnson, “Someone Else’s Shoes” by Jojo Moyes, “Change Your Brain Every Day: Simple Daily Practices to Strengthen Your Mind, Memory, Moods, Focus, Energy, Habits, and Relationships” (Dewey 616) by Daniel G. Amen, MD, “Healing Through Words” (Dewey 158) by Rupi Kaur, and “Helgoland: Making Sense of the Quantum Revolution” (Dewey 530) by Carlo Rovelli.

FUN FACT: “Green Eggs and Ham” started as a bet. The Dr. Seuss classic grew out of a bet with his editor that he could not create a book using fewer than 50 different words. The editor, Random House founder Bennett Cerf, put – you guessed it – $50 on the line, and lost. Since publication, the book has sold millions of copies, arguably making it Seuss’s most popular book.

The library is located at 301 E. 10th St., across from Mutz Ballpark.

Library staff may be reached at ferrislibrary@ferristexas.gov or (972) 544-2110, Option 9.
