WILMER CITY ADMINISTRATOR GETS ‘VOTE OF CONFIDENCE’

WILMER – The Wilmer City Council was heralded with kudos at last week’s city council meeting when it was noted on the council agenda that an executive session was called to deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee, to wit: City Administrator Rona Stringfellow.

The item was placed on the agenda by council members Linda Diane Nelon and Phyllis Slough.

Nearly a dozen people signed up to speak at the meeting, most sharing with council how happy they were with city staff performance over the past few years.

In a word, the consensus was whatever staff is doing, keep doing it and don’t change the formula.

Former city council member Candy Madrigal spoke, and said the city is heading in the right direction – and City Administrator Rona Stringfellow was in that direction.

Another public speaker who has been in long-distance transportation and commercial trucking his entire life stated a necessity for free truck rest-stop parking because of the additional warehouse facilities, bringing the potential for hundreds of trucks daily for product delivery.

He suggested seeking federal financing along Interstate 45 near Wilmer and Ferris for truckers to rest, since drivers are often tired from long drives and could pose a threat to public safety.

The regular city council meeting minutes from Nov. 3, Dec. 1, and the Dec. 29, 2022, special meeting all passed unanimously.
