Ellis County under burn ban

ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County Commissioner’s Court voted in favor of issuing a county-wide burn ban at the Tuesday, July 25 commissioner’s court meeting.

The ban is effective immediately, and includes all unincorporated areas of Ellis County.

Commissioner Paul Perry, pct. 3, made the motion to issue the burn ban.

The order does not apply to outdoor burning activities that include domestic activities that “result from the function of life within a residence” with examples such as kitchen garbage, untreated lumber, cardboard boxes, packaging, clothing, grass, leaves and trimmings, which may be burned in compliance with necessary requirements stated in the order creating a controlled environment with safeguards outlined in the order.

The order also read, “No domestic waste burnings is allowed on days designated as Red Flag Warning Days by the National Weather Service.”

The order is in effect for 90 days from July 25 or earlier if the Ellis County Commissioner’s Court determines circumstances no longer create a public safety hazard that would be intensified by outdoor burning.
