Ellzey will face former Marine in 2024 Republican primary

ELLIS COUNTY – The 6th Congressional District Representative in Washington DC, Republican Jake Ellzey, will have an opponent in the March 2024 Republican Primary as he runs to keep his seat for another term.

A history teacher at Corsicana High School and a former marine, Cliff Wiley, has his sights set on the 6th Congressional seat too.

Ellzey, who has been in his current seat since 2021 after a short seven month stint in the Texas House, is also former military.

In the 118th Congress, Ellzey served on the House Appropriations Committee, and worked on the Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Interior and Environment subcommittees.

His opponent has stated on his “Wiley for Congress” webpage he is running for Congress, “because I feel like I have not been represented in our government the way I would like.”

Wiley said he, like many Americans, is struggling at the grocery store and the gas pump, and he will not be “bullied or persuaded by lobbyists” nor does he owe “any favors to anyone in Washington DC” should he win the election.

The 6th Congressional District includes Ellis and Navarro counties to the south and southeast of the Dallas/Fort Worth area as well as the southeast corner of Tarrant County.

The Republican Primaries will be held March 5, 2024.
