Aguilar Amber Alert canceled

WILMER – The Amber Alert for 10-year-old Ian Aguilar, which was issued several weeks ago out of Wilmer has been canceled.

The alert was canceled on Nov. 25 at 3:30 p.m.

Wilmer Police said Aguilar was safely returned to the United States and his family. 

Police did not indicate just where he was returned in the United States. 

The boy’s mother was found dead in Wilmer after the Amber Alert was issued, turning the case into not only a missing child but also a homicide investigation.

Aguilar had last been seen in Wilmer on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

During the early hours of the Amber Alert, police were searching for Aguilar’s father Juan Aguilar-Cano, 38, for the abduction, but Aguilar-Cano quickly became a homicide suspect.

There is no update on Aguilar-Cano’s whereabouts at this time, and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department took over the homicide part of the investigation.

The father’s vehicle was found days later abandoned near a Houston area bus station, and the Wilmer Police have been working closely with the FBI, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the US Marshall’s Office and the Department of Family and Protective Services since that time.

According to a press release issued over the weekend, Wilmer Police had been working countless hours along with “many other law enforcement agencies and their counterparts on both the US and Mexico side of the border.”

Wilmer Police Lt. John Rhodes said, “We ask that you respect the family and give Ian time to adjust. 

“He and his family have just been through a tragic ordeal, and the family needs some time. 

“Again, thank you for your support of Ian and his family.”
