OBITUARY: Gerald Wayne Swedensky
Gerald Wayne Swedensky, 88, of Mansfield, Texas passed on Jan. 16, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Sept. 19, 1935 in Loveland, Colorado to James Albert Swedensky and Myrtle Marie Potter.
As a young man, he joined the United States Navy along with his three brothers. After the military, Jerry met the love of his life, Shirley, and they eloped to Las Vegas.
They moved to Texas where they started a family, and Jerry had a long career as an ironworker for Henry C. Beck Construction Company. Later in life before he retired, he worked as a custodian for the Red Oak School District in Red Oak with his wife, Shirley.
Jerry had many hobbies such as fishing, woodworking, canning with Shirley, and playing cards and dominoes with friends. Jerry and Shirley did country & western dancing at local VFW clubs and centers.
After retirement, Shirley and Jerry enjoyed camping and doing road trips to visit Civil War historical sites.
He is survived by his son, Todd (Cheryl); his twin granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Michael) and Hailey (Kale); his granddaughter, Nikki; his grandson, Charles (Tiffany); his granddaughter, Tammy; his great grandson, Remington; and many other great grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirley; his parents, James and Myrtle; his son, Tommy Don; his baby daughter, Tammy Dee; and his brothers, Leonard, Tom and Donny.
