FERRIS PUBLIC LIBRARY: More than Books (May 16, 2024)
May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
This is an annual celebration that recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent to the United States.
In June of 1977, U.S. Representatives Frank Horton of New York and Norman Mineta of California introduced a resolution to establish Asian Pacific Heritage Week to be celebrated each year at the beginning of May.
In 1992, the month of May was designated by President George H.W. Bush as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. This month, we take time to reflect and celebrate the important role that they have played in our shared history.
Join us on Thursday, May 16 at 4 p.m. for a Family Movie Matinee featuring “Moana,” accompanied by a fun craft activity! Contact the library for more information.
