Commissioner’s Court recognizes Elder Abuse Prevention Month

WAXAHACHIE – The Ellis County Commissioner’s Court recognized June as Elder Abuse Prevention Month at its most recent Commissioner’s Court meeting.

Ellis County Judge Todd Little read the proclamation beginning: “It is the moral duty of all civilized nations to honor its elders, familial and public figures, whereas our elders built the world as we know it today and they continue to guide our state and nation with timeless wisdom and experience…”

The proclamation read “Elder abuse is a crime not only against individuals but against the foundations of our civil society.”

Each year Texas Adult Protective Services receives hundreds of intakes and investigates even more cases of abuse or neglect among elderly and disabled residents in Ellis County.

During the same meeting, the Ellis County Historical Commission also received a 2023 Distinguished Service Award. 

The award was given to recognize exceptional performance as determined by a statewide assessment of annual reports with a statement that the commission had performed above average.

Little acknowledged volunteers with the Ellis County Historical Commission and said, “We have done some incredible things this year.”

Out of 254 counties in Texas. there were only 84 that qualified for this recognition. 

Little said this is the second year the Commission was recognized, and “I want you to know every dollar we are spending from our county funds are going to preserve and take care of the history that we have here today in Ellis County.”
