Ennis interim city manager resigns 2 weeks into the job
ENNIS – The newly named Ennis’ Interim City Manager, Aron Kulhavy, resigned on Thursday.
Kulhavy, who had previously served as city manager for Huntsville, started on the job just over two weeks ago on Nov. 20.
Police Chief Dustin Munn will act as city manager for the City of Ennis according to the mayor’s office.
Kulhavy’s resignation came on Thursday, four days after a boil water notice was issued for the city’s public water system.
The notice was rescinded Thursday at 6 p.m.
Munn enters the new position in a challenging spot.
The city was under a boil water advisory since Sunday after a water main break that just ended Thursday evening.
As a result, Ennis ISD canceled classes for four days straight, giving students and staff an extended Thanksgiving break.
Munn also filled the interim position after Marty Nelson, who served as the full-time city manager since 2020, resigned abruptly in August.
Nelson had served as city manager in Ennis since 2020 and oversaw many changes in the city.
While Ennis City officials were not readily available for comment concerning the interim hiring of Kulhavy, Ennis Mayor Kameron Raburn had stated, “If it is a good fit, we will offer him the job.”
Kulhavy came through the city from a search firm and had worked as the city manager in Huntsville since 2018. He had been with the city in various other capacities since 2008.
In September, 2024, KSAM Radio Station in Huntsville reported the city was hiring a firm to begin a new city manager search.
The station noted Kulhavy had resigned from his post.
In an Oct. 7, 2024 story in The Item, it stated the Huntsville City Council had voted to place Kulhavy on administrative consulting duties until his retirement date in February, 2025 in a 4-3 council vote.
