OBITUARY: Arthur Young (A.Y.) Mohundro, Jr.
Arthur Young Mohundro, Jr. (A.Y.), age 96 of Ferris, Texas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 9, 2020 with his family by his side.
He was born May 3, 1924 in Ferris, Texas, to the late Arthur Young Mohundro Sr. and Essie Ross Mohundro. He graduated from Ferris High School and soon after married the love of his life, Dollye Ruth Whitton on May 30, 1943. Together they raised two sons, Richard Lynn and Phillip Whitton Mohundro.
A.Y.’s first job was with Sears and Roebuck in Dallas, Texas before heading back to the family farm to work with his father. He truly loved farming and over the years he planted and harvested a variety of crops including cotton, wheat and milo. After his retirement from farming, he owned and ran the Western Auto Store in Ferris for many years.
He and Dollye loved to square dance and travel in their RV; visiting many of the State and National Parks in the US and some in Canada. They enjoyed many special trips to New Mexico with their family.
A.Y. was a founding member of First Baptist Church Ferris, serving many years as Treasurer, Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved being with his family, meeting and talking to people, and being outdoors whether it was working in his yard or riding his John Deere mower. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Richard Lynn and wife Roxanne Mohundro, son Phillip Whitton Mohundro; sister Robbie Nell West and brother Dr. Charles W. Mohundro.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Dollye Ruth Mohundro of 77 years; grandchildren; Richard Lynn Mohundro II and his wife Kathy, Rhett Young Mohundro and his wife Kristi, Loren Mohundro Cook and her husband Jon, Sydnie Mohundro Talley and her husband Bronson; great-grandchildren Ashley Mohundro Jones and her husband Josh, Ethan Young Mohundro, Adam Young Mohundro, Kennedi Cook, Arebelle and Axyl Talley; and great-great-grandchildren; Aidan Young, Avery, Madelyn and Maycie Jones; brother Wayne Mohundro of Dublin, TX and many other nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Funeral Service was held Saturday, December 12, 2020.
