WEEK 1: Waxahachie wins ‘Battle of 287’
ENNIS – Waxahachie quarterback Ramon McKinney Jr. combined for 216 yards and ran for a touchdown to lead his team over Ennis 22-16 on Friday in the battle of U.S. Highway 287 at Ennis Lion stadium
Ennis (0-1) got off to a shaky start that was overcome by two scores in just 1:14. The first was a 3-yard run by Malachi Perez and was followed by a 28-yard pick-six by Ketrevius Tarrant. Receiver GracenHarris caught three passes for 72 yards and added 42 yards on the ground.
Waxahachie’s defense shut down the Ennis offense in the second half, allowing just three points and 150 yards. Kicker Ethan Guillen made a 30-yard field goal to cap a 16-point unanswered streak from Waxahachie (1-0) to make it 22-13.
Running back Wade Lemons finished with 59 yards rushing and a touchdown on 12 attempts. Ennis kicker Jax Bishop scored the game’s last points on a 28-yard field goal to make the final score 22-16.
