WEEK 8: Red Oak beats Cleburne 35-10; first 7-0 record in school history

CLEBURNE – Red Oak (7-0, 5-0 District 4-5A1) got out to a quick 14-0 start with a little over 7 minutes left in the 1st quarter and built a 21-7 lead at the half, thanks to a pair of touchdown catches from Rodney Malone, one from 16-yards and the other from 8-yards, from Reggie Moody.

After battling a penalty-ridden second half, Red Oak managed to get two more scores, the first being a one-handed stellar catch from Charles Taplin.

The final points were scored with 10:31 left in the game on a 5-yard run from Moody to make the final 35-10.

Cleburne (2-6, 2-4 District 4-5A1) receiver Boston Bicknell scored the lone touchdown on a 96-yard catch from quarterback Luke Stweart.

Stewart finished the game with 187 yards passing and a touchdown on 7 completions.

The defense kept them in the game with two turnovers and two forced turnovers on downs.

Red Oak running back Chris Martinez finished with 136 rushing yards on 14 rushes.

Four-star receiver Taz Williams had 89 yards receiving and a touchdown on six catches.

This is the first time in school history Red Oak has gone 7-0. Red Oak returns home on Friday, Oct. 20 to host the Killeen Kangaroos (5-2, 3-2).

Despite their 3-2 district record, they are a good team. The Hawks defense will need to put pressure on Killeen’s QB to avoid big plays down the field to their speedy wide receivers. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Billy Goodloe Stadium
